We’ve had the most lovely of reverse long weekends – with my sister, her husband and their three girls here visiting us at ‘Carlton’ for a few days. They had to head back to Melbourne on Sunday so Matt took Friday off work instead of Monday.
Lots of Limestone Coast exploring with a trip to the swimming lake in town for a swim, the world heritage caves to find some fossils, local wineries and a picnic at nearby Jip Jip Rocks. My niece Ava is farm obsessed – all she wants to do is chase bulls, wear Uncle Matt’s akubra and carry his stock whip and run with the kelpie. She saw rodeo ad’s on our satellite TV and had never seen such a thing before, now she wants to be a bull rider! And a part time shearer.
We love having visitors to our ‘new’ home here in South Australia, especially having a house full of squealing raucous girls. I don’t think these city kids really grasped the concept of isolated living though, with requests for me to just ‘go to the supermarket’ to get things we didn’t have. Also the concept of a farm with no dams was a bit foreign after being used to Grandpa’s farm in high rainfall Gippsland.
Hope you all had a sunny, lamb-filled Australia Day weekend with loved ones like ours, aren’t we a lucky bunch to live here?

Great pics. No dam or river? That must be hard……

Looks like a great time and I loved the photo of her looking like a jillaroo with the stock whip but wearing the peppy pig thirty. So adorable. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia
