A Blanket for Cedar

June 13, 2013 by Emma

Ripple Crochet Blanket

Over the past six months I’ve had a little not so little project on my crochet hook. As we crossed over the border several times for job interviews and to investigate the possibility of becoming South Australians, as we looked after our friends farm in South Gippsland, as we moved house interstate, as we unpacked our life after 15 months living on the road, as we settled in to life here on the Limestone Coast in our old farmhouse – all that time I hooked my way through a special project. A ripply blanket of blue and green yarn slowly grew on my lap, for a baby boy due in Melbourne’s winter.

That baby boy was welcomed into the world earlier this week. Cedar has arrived and I couldn’t be happier for my dear friend Lou and her beautiful family. I can’t even fathom the joy and love going on right now in their lives. Isn’t life full of amazement? It’s incredible.

I hope your blanket keeps you snugly and warm in your Melbourne home, Cedar. Know that it was made with the warmest of love, with hopes and dreams for you and your family woven through it. Welcome to the world baby boy, I can’t wait for your story to unfold!

I know this was a long time ago but it looks like you filled in the top and bottom edges to make them straight. Would you have a minute to explain how you did that? I like the look of the straight edge so much better.

I’m SUPER late to the game here….but I am totally in love with these colours!!! Do you keep notes on your projects? Any idea what yarn brand / colour you used? Beautiful!

I used Panda Magnum Soft for this blanket, it’s super soft and ‘floppy’ so not very good for structured projects. Good luck!

What size crochet hook did you use to make this? It’s lovely by the way!

Great blanket! I’m attempting to recreate this for my expecting nephew. Under your post, you’ve listed that you used a 6mm hook… But then in the comments, you listed a 4.5. When you have a moment, can u please let me know which you used? Thanks so much! It’s really such a lovely blanket!!

I LOVE this blanket! The color combination is lovely. I love it so much it has inspired me to crochet my first blanket! (all I’ve been doing so far is hats) Do you use three rows for each color? 🙂

It’s beautiful and every time I see a ripple blanket I want to start one. What size is your blanket finished. I know Lou will appreciate how much work has gone into it. regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia

What a beautiful friend you are to make that for Lou and her gorgeous new little baby boy:) I love your ripple blanket, they are a lot of work but the end result is so worth it. In saying all of that I must get back to my ripple blanket I started a couple of years ago. (lol) My excuse for not finishing it, it’s really big because I’m making it for my bed? Probably not a good one is it:)
