Despite declaring that Eleanor wouldn’t be having a second birthday party, considering she had a fairly big first she-bang, I of course decided that a farmyard themed birthday bash for our oinking, gumboot stomping, sheepy obsessed dirt girl was in order. In the middle of Winter. Whilst 37 weeks pregnant. Yup.
But…all went well. I promised myself my husband that I wouldn’t get all stressed about party preparation or perfect decorations or the impending weather disaster or go crazy over-catering to feed the forty thousand. And I think I did pretty well! I had basically no decorations, Matt was pretty much in charge of the cake, we slow cooked pork the night before for hot pulled pork rolls, the party table was hardly styled with wonky milk bottles and some cupcakes and party food thrown about. Nothing much, and I honestly didn’t care, or tried not to anyway! Eleanor’s pony dress which I made was less than perfect and missing nostrils by the end of the day, I hardly got any photos throughout the day and we all ended up huddled in our teeny tiny farmhouse sheltering from the arctic conditions outside. Did I mention it snowed the day before? A-huh.
Obviously Eleanor didn’t give two hoots about mummy not getting all the photos she wanted, or daddy’s funny looking pig cake, or the fact the farm themed cookies I bought were completely forgotten about and not put on the table. She had a super fun day with all her mums-group buddies, a few cousins and her new favourite Aunty Weeze, sharing her new beaut ride-on tractor with all her little friends and being loved upon and celebrated for the funny little munchkin she is.
I’m now so glad I did decide to do a second birthday party for our blossom, to give her a great big hurruh before she becomes a fully blown big girl in her big sister role. I know her little world is about to explode with a new sibling joining our cosy farmhouse soon, but I love that she knows just how adored she is by a whole lot of people. And no, she won’t be having a third birthday party…I think…
Happy birthday gorgeous girl.

Hi Emma!
I saw Eleanor’s sweet face pop up on Instagram a couple of days ago and found my way over here – safe to say I’ve been binge reading ever since! You have such a wonderful way with words and sure know how to work a camera. Thank you for the lovely mention you gave me in your email to Kattie. It was an absolute pleasure to teach Eleanor and see her improve! Happy 2nd birthday to your lovely girl, seems like you put on a killer celebration!
Wishing you a safe delivery with baby Sprout,
Nicole

Thank you Nicole! Eleanor loved her swimming lessons so much, she was wandering around the house the other day carrying her bathers asking to go to ‘swimmo’ and loves to sing crocodile crocodile standing in the bath! I’ll have to get her back enrolled soon, and then Harriet in no time!
