Ah, Easter… I always seem to forget about you, the ‘secondary’ holiday to the big Christmas-palooza. But there you are, in all your Autumnal glory, ready and waiting every year with your leisurely long weekend and traditional-no-tradition casualness. Growing up we had no real set Easter tradition, other than Good Friday down the creek with our neighbours and local families (bonfire in the paddock, yabby net in the creek, fish in the coals and hot cross buns toasting on a stick). But Easter Sunday is often a bit loose and ‘whatever goes’ in our books. Now as adults sometimes we’re camping, the Dargo high plains was our tradition for awhile there, but more often than not these days we can be found by the sea, at Matt’s parents house in Inverloch.
My husband’s great-grandparents generation were some of the earlier European settlers of the sleepy seaside town, and now the street (bearing the family name) is home to a cluster of houses full of cousins and second cousins and cousins-cousins and inlaws (and outlaws?!) A bustling hub for our tribe to call home – full to bursting now with little people – for beach visits and epic sandcastle building, lizard catching, teepee spotting, farmers market exploring, strawberry patch raiding and for egg hunting in the front garden on this particular weekend.
A slow and simple Easter (although husband dearest did manage to find himself elbow deep troweling out some new paving, always one for a project on ‘holidays’…) But, no more words needed, just a simple photo essay to do the talking…
A special place made special by the people who share it with us. Every time we’re all together there I think of the generation before us, how they would love to see how it has unfolded and grown and blossomed in that sandy soil on the esplanade. But perhaps they do see? Perhaps they knew? Or know? I hope so.
I hope your Easter was spent just as simply as ours, with happy bunnies and full tummies and chocolatey highs and hot cross bun overdosing lows…

Our Easter’s are also normally a laid back afair with a big family good Friday and quiet Sunday with close family. This year saw family in our new house and a pretty quiet Friday with hot cross buns for brunch. Sunday I had to do the dreaded airport run, dropping my brother and mum off. Who knows what future Easters with our little family will be like. Your Easter looks relaxing and fun. Gorgeous images of your family and Matt’s family home. How lucky having the sea right there. I hope Matt didn’t work too hard (someone in my house is the same). Happy Easter!
