If It’s A Baby Boy

Not to let the sweet baby girls have all the glory…here’s what is bouncing around in my brain for a just as sweet baby boy. And let’s be honest – my inkling is for a boy, in fact a brood of boys one day, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I read somewhere that mother’s intuition as to the baby’s gender can be 70% correct, probably utter hogwash but interesting if it has any truth behind it. Of course I’ve also had the thought that if I think it’s a baby boy…of course it will be a girl. Murphy’s Law and all that. My best friend had a baby girl in November, my best friend who is the most tom-boy, pink hating, sport mad, I-don’t-know-what-to-do-with-a-baby-girl mother. When she was pregnant I remember her saying to me “Oh God…what if it’s a girl and she wants to do BALLET?!” The horror. Now of course she’s telling me I’ll have a little boy who will be the world’s best sewer, baker and crocheter, while her Claire is some mountain biking, rock climbing, Scout leader.

People comment on how many gorgeous things there are for baby girls, and it’s true, but honestly I am more and more drawn to little boys bits and bobs (another subconscious sign perhaps that I’m growing a little man?) I think big companies and retailers have heard the pleas of boys’ mums and responded finally! Being surrounded by girls girls girls with all my nieces and friends daughters has me a bit bored at the sight of more girl stuff. Navy and overalls, trucks and teddy bears are pretty appealing, no? And of course the idea of a little farmer blondie mini-Matt, I’m preparing myself to be fully slain by the heart explosion that might create.

Love these ‘if it’s a…’ posts, waiting for baby is so exciting! Hope you’re feeling well!
As a tomboy who grew up on a farm and once played women’s football in the VWFL, I was sure I was having a boy with my first. We decided early on a boys name, Edward and I bought one or two boyish pieces of clothing…we now have two beautiful girls 3.5 and 18mnths and they couldn’t be more girly. They love putting on their fairy skirts and having tea parties and coming for babycino dates with me at our local cafes. I honestly couldn’t imagine life or the girls any different. I love having girls but would still love a little Edward…maybe one day! 😉 There are definitely many beautiful things for girls and boys out there. Good luck for the last part of your pregnancy! x

    Hi Emma,
I remember seeing your recent discussion about cloth nappies on Instagram. Thought this post on Made by Rae might interest you, if you haven’t already seen it: http://www.made-by-rae.com/2014/03/sewing-for-baby-cloth-diapers-2/

I am very partial to blue- for myself but also for my boys! Now that wo of boys are big ( 14 & 11) they embrace the whole spectrum of colours but for my baby boy ( 11 months) shades of blue, grey, green with bits of red are still my go-to colour palette.

I’m pregnany with my first daughter after 3 sons & I have to say that looking at all the girls things I find it quite jarring! I’m not a pink girly girl & after 14 years of buying things for boys all the pink & the frills is hard to deal with. I wish retailers/designers would realise that there is more than pink! Not everyone wants to dress to dress their daughters in head to toe pink….

one thing for sure, a little boy can steal a mothers heart in a totally different way to a little girl. Boys are pretty uncomplicated to be honest (but require driving, they like to have big sisters to do their chores for them if they can get away with it) . Love my girls, but geez they can be just a bit harder work sometimes.

I was totally convinced, like 99% certain we were having a girl. At the start I was unsure, but as time went on, I was truly sure it was a girl. It was most definitely not a girl, it was Mr Otis! Mostly I love boys stuff… It’s just that sometimes there’s more girls options, or all the boys stuff has dinosaurs, trucks or stupid slogans on it. Country Road, Bonds, Seed etc boys range is usually lovely, but (especially CR and Seed) really expensive (or I think so!). But mostly, buys stuff is FUN!!!!!

Yes I’m not that into having dinosaurs and robots and trucks on EVERYTHING – but similarly with girls, just plain block colours or patterns are fine thank you very much. Agree with prices on CR and Seed, but gee they’re nice and classic!
