Well, we did it – we’re in!
Over the weekend, mainly thanks to our generous friends (who were duly paid in Oreo cupcakes, lemon meringue cheesecake, a cooked breakfast and chicken schnitzels) plus a ute, a horse float and a few cars, we moved all of our furniture and worldly possessions from my mum’s house to our new abode. Rugs were unrolled, furniture placed just so, heavy boxes left in strategic positions for me to unpack, as Matt is away all week for work, and slowly but surely I have been feathering our new nest.
It’s a bit of a funny business settling in to a new home, no matter how many times I do it. There’s always that “where should this go?!” and just random odds and ends on your kitchen bench for awhile, not to mention the waking up and trying to figure out where you are…when you’re in a bedroom that three years ago actually was your usual sleeping place. Head spin! So, apologies if things are a little quiet around these parts until I get properly sorted – when Matt’s away I always feel a little left of centre anyway, let alone living amongst boxes and general jumbled-ness.
I have so many ideas and plans bouncing around in my head for She Sows Seeds though, always the way after a little break, a step back to take a leap forward. I have updated my little blurb (over there on the sidebar…) as well as my ‘About’ page to reflect our life now and where I’m headed creatively. Good-bye sandy Limestone Coast, hello Gippsland soggy Winter. You might notice I still ‘labelled’ myself as a farmer’s wife – something I’ve thought a bit about…before keeping it just as it was. As a lot of my readers will know, being ‘a farmer’s wife’ is not like being ‘a builder’s wife’ or ‘a doctor’s wife’. Farming is not simply a job, it is a vocation, often one that chooses you, a love for the land and agriculture will never leave us – whether we’re working on farm or off. The agricultural landscape is an evolving place, especially for young farming couples like us, we are one of many who have ‘left the land’, but we are still very much a part of the ag industry and plan to always be. And so, I am still wearing the hat of farmer’s wife. I still very much see my husband as a farmer. It is not his occupation or how we pay our bills anymore, but ‘a farmer’ is not a position description, it’s something a lot deeper than that, and I don’t think that will ever leave him, or me. So there, that’s that sorted!
Now, I’m off to the op shop with yet another load of stuff! Oh the stuff…it’s sickening isn’t it? Purging and cleansing, cleansing and purging…

Your new place looks lovely. Looking forward to seeing more as you settle. Cleansing and purging is therapeutic {and makes room for more cool stuff;)} x

Yes, I’m always shocked by the stuff each time we’ve moved. It’s always nice to have a good clear out though, as exhausting as it can be!

You should have done the purging BEFORE you moved! I have an extra room half full with purged items – just waiting for an upcoming yard sale. The lighter feeling of Spring always makes it easier to get rid of things!

I did purge before as well! So much! Yet still there was more.

I love unpacking, creating new arrangements and changing things up from the previous house. It feels like a fresh start 🙂 Take your time and enjoy finding the perfect spot for everything.

All the best unpacking – I think that’s the best bit about moving. Finding new homes for all your treasures!
