Ladies Who Lunch

High on my to-do list whilst I was in Melbourne was to meet my friend Lou’s sweet new baby, Cedar. Conveniently we were just a stone’s throw from one another, and even more conveniently my friend Amy made a trip to Melbourne from her South Gippsland farm to catch up as well. A lunch date was made, five children, including a very, very teeny-tiny newborn, snuggled warm and close in his sling whilst the big kids played around him.

Ironically enough it was the one afternoon during the week I was child-free – but that just meant more Cedar snuggles, fine by me! He really is so incredibly tiny, I can’t fathom how small he must have been five weeks ago when he was born, Lou says he’s chubbed up! He is beyond perfect though, all long fingers and pursed lips. It is the sweetest thing to see Lou so smitten with her boy, her growing girls, adjusting to this life with three, blooming where she is planted as well.

Two of my dearest friends are Lou and Amy – two women who I admire greatly for their creative endeavours, their mama skills, their humour and wisdom. They’re basically the bees knees as far as I’m concerned. And both of them I ‘met’ through blogging. Lou had just moved to my neck of the woods from far across the country, wanting to dip her toe into the photography world, and now look at her, brilliance beyond measure. Amy and I used to live in the same sweet cottage, only about five years apart, our paths have crossed through serendipity and mutual friends. We both have farmer husbands with minds bursting with potential and ideas and dreams, she belongs to the very special group I call our ‘ag friends’ – friends who get it.

Gratitude spews from me for friends like Lou and Amy – friends who won’t bat an eyelid at my suggestion of my latest crazy decorating or blogging idea, my purchase of a vintage crate collection ‘just because’ or will tell me when to throw caution to the wind and when to pull my head in. Absolutely worth their weight in gold.

We lunched at Leroy’s in Newport. Perfect for kids with a sandpit and play equipment out the back, room to spread out the prams and the food is delicious too. Sunny and Scout can highly recommend the teddy bear toast.
