Yesterday here was wet, grey and miserable. Steady rain fell on the farmhouse roof all day, the sun was nowhere to be seen amongst the heavy clouds. I lit the fire early in the day when usually I don’t light it until the evening. I had plans to shoot lots of photos for the blog, but the lighting was just plain depressing. Plans changed quickly to cooking and crocheting.
This morning I’ve woken to glorious sunshine streaming in my kitchen window. As with most things, there are pros and cons to having our wide verandahs on four sides of the house. In summer I’m sure they will shield us from the beating South Australian sun, but now in winter the house can seem dark and gloomy on days like yesterday. Most mornings though when I’m having my first coffee of the day, sitting at my great grandparents table in our kitchen, the sunbeams rain through from the rising sun in the east. For a brief period the sun is above the horizon and below the verandah’s edges. And I thank the clever man who built this house in the 1940’s for putting the kitchen on this side of the house. The sun makes its way to the hall and Tessa follows its path across the floor, warming her cold little furry body from the crisp air outside.
A new day can bring new perspective, a little bit of winter sunshine will do that.
Do you have a sunny spot you love to bask in?
Like my very blue retro kitchen?
Think I need a tablecloth update? Me too.

Loving your pictures and your blog…always very inspiring. I love your retro blue kitchen too. A day sitting crocheting near the fire sounds like bliss. I live in the mountains in Victoria and today is going to be one of those days. The rain hasn’t stopped. I need to finish a little crochet beanie for a sweet baby girl that was born last week. So I better go and stoke up that fire. Keep warm xo

Loving the “light” pictures…..I seem to be noticing more of that at our place too that I like to photograph. Love the glimpses around the farmhouse and glad there was some sun shining through. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia http://www.oursimpleandmeaningfullife.blogspot.com

sounds like a perfect day by the fire! (and yes, why not lash out on a funky new tablecloth!)

I used to love the hammock in the sun on the veranda in winter as a kid then on the station I loved the morning sun on the veranda or as I walked out in the paddocks or in the cattle yards but now in Cairns I nearly hide from it except early or in the late afternoon as even now it is packing a punch.

I tend to chase the shade in my little apartment up here in Darwin and crank on the fans as soon as I wake!
P.s I LOVE your retro blue kitchen!
