Local is Lovely

March 27, 2014 by Emma

Sometimes you come across people who are so clever, so creative, so passionate about their little place in the world and their purpose…generally just lovely people. Sophie is one of those such lovely people. Not long after (or before?) I began She Sows Seeds I stumbled across Sophie’s blog Local is Lovely. Life on a farm. Baking. Growing. Producing. Simple country living. Tasting. Stomping about in gumboots collecting firewood and foraging. Huh. It seemed the simple things in life that I was appreciating in my little place on the interwebs, Sophie was too – and she had a gorgeous little family and business to boot.

Sophie, the clever clogs, has just released her very own book – a book! I can’t imagine the time and love and energy that has been poured into its pages. Flicking through I just kept thinking to myself what an absolute labour of love it must have been, you can just tell. A passion like that for local yumminess will do that I suppose.

Local Is Lovely | She Sows Seeds

In the pages of Local is Lovely are, well, lovely recipes divided into seasons – there’s Christmas baking, winter heartiness, the thrill of stonefruit becoming available again, summer soirees, foraging and growing, tidbits of knowledge about specific ingredients. Local producers are featured throughout, a beautiful addition to really connect the food dots. Sophie’s local food knowledge and simple common sense in the kitchen is so valuable, sitting down with this book is like sitting down and having a cuppa with her over the kitchen table and picking her brain about cooking and baking and deliciousness. I love that about this book.

Bravo Soph! The book is gorgeous, lovely even. So many gems in there I can’t wait to try my hand at in my new kitchen (with a stove that works – how novel!) The slow roasted pork is calling my name…

Local is Lovely is available to be purchased here or, dare I say it, all good bookstores. Would make a fabulous Mother’s Day gift, just saying. I’m fairly certain mine is going to turn into one of those cookbooks on my shelf with dog-earred pages and food splatters a’plenty.

I am sure that if this book doesn’t inspire people to get into the kitchen absolutely nothing will, I love it too 🙂
