I’ve mentioned before that I’m not a big breakfast eater – I just simply don’t wake up starving hungry, and I’m not a big eggs and bacon fan (in fact I don’t eat bacon at all really, no joke). But the idea of breakfast I’m a fan of, and since growing a little human my appetite in the early morning has certainly increased. My usual strong latte for breakfast is these days replaced by a cup of raspberry leaf tea, perhaps some avocado on an English breakfast, maybe muesli with loads of yogurt and a banana, and lately in the cold weather I’ve been quite partial to some porridge with poached pears, cinnamon and honey. Yum. And then of course there’s the liquid breakfast, smoothies seem to be ‘The In Thing’ in breakfasts these days – they’re all over Instagram and Pinterest, chock full of things like coconut water, cacoa nibs, chia seeds and almond milk. I’m a fairly simple smoothie creator though, whatever happens to be in the pantry, fridge or freezer. Here are three creations I’ve blended up lately…
[line]
Cacao Banana
1 ripe banana, frozen in chunks
1 tablespoon raw cacao
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 cup milk
Peachy Keen
About 6-8 slices of peach (mine was canned due to the season, but fresh would be best)
1/2 cup of natural yogurt
4-5 dates
1/4 cup almonds
Blueberry Bliss
1 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 cup natural yogurt
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup oats
Simply blend all the ingredients for each smoothie together in a blender, adding in more or less milk or ice to change consistency. I find the dates with the peach a great sweetener, as with the honey in the banana. The almonds and the oats are great ‘filler-er-upperers’ too.
Do you ‘do’ smoothies for breakfast?
What do you put in yours that I should know about?
Breakfast lover or bacon hater? I know, I’m a strange cat.

I’ve not ever made a smoothie but these actually look good for filling up after school hungry tummies. What appliance does one use? Blender or food processor?

I use my blender, I also have a stick barmix that would work…and a ‘milkshake maker’ which is actually quite crap. TOO MANY APPLIANCES! Can you tell I just want to put them all on ebay and fund a thermomix?! 😉

Oh yummy, I’ll have to try that peach one for sure. I don’t mind a cooked breakfast but Mr Sparky is a no breakfast on a workday person so cooking eggs for one is just lonely looking and too much mess, porridge is mostly out because I’m not keen on it in warm weather ( do love it as a winter warmer though). My favourite time to eat desert would be breakfast but that is a terrible habit ad one I avoid at all costs by not making desert. I have been making a mix of oats, chai seeds, milk and yoghurt in a bowl with whatever I feel like miked in for example honey and banana, berries, frozen mango and almonds, anything goes that tastes good (1/4 cup oats, 1/3 milk, 1/4 cup yoghurt, 1tsp chia seeds + whatever). It is supposed to be made the night before but I just make it when I get up and eat it a bit later. This is stolen from here http://www.theyummylife.com/Refrigerator_Oatmeal . I do smoothies to, similar to you but mostly banana or berry

Yum! Have been meaning to try some overnight oats or chia. My Mr is a bit of a weirdo and likes cooking one egg for himself of a weekday morning, it’s his little thing and has his little pan for it and everything. Creature of habit!

Yum, I love smoothies for breakfast, and so does Otis! The peach one looks good, and is something new, we’ll have to give it a try! If you like the taste of coconut milk/cream, I recommend adding some to your smoothies – it’s really good for your milk supply!!!
Emma says
Oooo thanks, yes don’t mind a bit if coconut so will keep that in mind!

Oh yum! We are big breakfast eaters here and also big smoothie lovers as well. I usually make one up for the boys for afternoon tea, banana and cocoa or straight up banana and yoghurt. The peach one look really good. xx

I commented before but it seems to have been eaten:( These look really yummy Emma and I like having something a little different for breakfast to jazz things up and I’m not much of a bacon person either. In our house we love to have blueberry smoothies. We add a banana, a bit of raw honey, yoghurt, milk and some maca and mesquite powder for a bit of a mineral boost although I did read that maca powder isn’t good when pregnant. Thank you for the smoothie inspiration your cacao smoothie I am going to have to try:) x
