Last week Eleanor and I trotted off to the big smoke for a little blogger event, because we thought it was far too long between cultured Melbourne doses. Plus, the lovely folks at Spotlight kindly invited us.
National Craft Month runs in March throughout Spotlight stores – lots of great in-store events, new products to try and buy, and general crafty awesomeness. At the event last week we had the chance to try our hand at lots of different crafts, chat to some smart cookies and crafters, as well as hang out with bloggers – likeminded people! With kids! Who don’t mind if you’re looking at your phone and Instagramming instead of, y’know, having a conversation. Or they don’t bat an eyelid when you take random photos of their hands at random angles. We’re a strange breed.
Plans are a’foot for our blossom’s first birthday (I know!!!) so I tried my hand at some fancy grass cupcake icing, surprising myself that it indeed did look like grass! I also attempted some pretty funky looking tassel making for a funky rope bracelet, chatted all about new fabric ranges with the quilting girls and ooh-ed and aah-ed over the Project Life goodies. To scrapbook or not to scrapbook? I’ve dabbled before but quickly lost interest, and who’s got the time? Sorting through photos on my computer lately though has me thinking I really need to document more photos of Eleanor in hard copy form. Hmmm…
The most exciting product catching everyone’s eyes were the new marquee lights. You can fully customise them any which way you like, and I love them! Pretty pattern inside? Sure. Glitter on the outside? You bet. The ‘Spotlight’ sign itself showcased all the different possibilities…and just quietly I love the mish-mash of designs for a long-ish word (say, like ‘Eleanor’!) Fun, isn’t it? Very carnival-esque.
I also had the pleasure of actually meeting the ever so lovely Kate from Foxs Lane in the flesh! I can confirm she is a real person! With real daughters, with real gorgeous plaits! We chatted yarn and babies and farmer husbands, as we do. Lovely to have a natter in real life.
Before long we had to skedaddle out of there – lots of things to do in the big smoke while we’re on a flying visit! But I’m so glad we went, I often get invited to these things and pass them up when I really shouldn’t (I don’t know why I do?!) The Spotlight team seemed to really get this blogging business and what we’re about, which helps an enormous lot. And what’s better than hanging out with a bunch of like-minded creatives on a Wednesday morning, shoving a croissant or three in your babies face and getting your craft on? Not much, in my books, not much.

If you want to try Scrapbooking but feel daunted by the traditional style definitely look at project life. Can be as fancy or simple as you like and the best thing I like is that I can easily go back and add a bit more embellishment.

Those lights look like they would be my pick too. I can only imagine how lovely you will make Eleanor’s birthday, I hope you share some photos when it happens 🙂
