1-4 :: We escaped for a night away in the camper over the weekend, less than 24 hours and only half an hour drive down the road, but it was still just what the doctor ordered. We love that we can be ready to go in ten minutes, go, come home and be unpacked in another ten minutes. My kind of camping. And I love the kitchen in the camper so much more than my actual kitchen in the farmhouse!
5-7 :: A walk at sunset to admire the light, I point it out to Matt all the time, he doesn’t naturally see it, lucky I do. The sun set over a neighbouring paddock cut for hay. I love the big old trees in these parts.
8 :: The view from bed in the morning. Mist and sunrise over the lake. We miss waking up and going to sleep in our ‘treehouse’ like we did for most of last year.
9-10 :: Dropping in to ‘Woolumbool’ on our way home, a property I’d never been to before but where Matt had some cattle to check. The old abandoned homestead was hauntingly beautiful in a strange, quiet way – covered in ivy, full of bees and creaking to it’s own sad song.
11 :: A weekend of such strange mixed emotion – the birth of my very best friends first child, a baby girl named Claire. I am so proud of Elisha, she will be an amazing mother. A mother! We have been best friends since we were about four years old. Always playing mothers and fathers, Elisha always the bossy mother. I ache to be there at home to meet her baby, but also to give Elisha a massive high five, to cook her a lasagne and do her washing and hold her baby while she rests. I feel far, far away. And then yesterday, the news came that my Aunty Carmel, my mother’s younger sister who, let’s be honest, has always been the ‘favourite aunty’, the eccentric, honest, crazy, light-filled aunty, passed away suddenly. Just like that. A life is started. Joy. A life is ended. Grief. Too soon, too soon. My heart broke last night for my cousin Dylan, I want to hug him tight and tell him it will be alright.

what a weekend of such joy, beauty, and sorrow. But just quietly, I think suddenly is good. No long drawn out painful illness. Its hard for those left behind, but better than the long slow process of grief during a terminal illness.
remember the good times, and celebrate the beauty of new little babies.
