Taking Stock

June 17, 2015 by Emma

This week I am a busy little bee, buzzing about this little farmhouse preparing for Eleanor’s birthday party, as well as meeting some work deadlines in between washing nappies (as always) and baking up a storm (as always). The perfect time to be taking stock…
Playroom | She Sows Seeds Taking Stock | She Sows Seeds 1 Cascade 220 yarn | She Sows Seeds Ornamental Kale | She Sows Seeds
making : seemingly endless paper fans for Eleanor’s birthday party this weekend
cooking : roast spuds and pumpkin, steaming some broccolini to have with leftover chicken lasagne
drinking : a glass of red in front of the fire
reading : all of your beautiful comments from my recent post
wanting : this arrangement from Flowers by Rhi (and when I say ‘wanting’, I mean ‘totally buying’)
playing : lots of Louisa Wendorrf mash-ups on YouTube
deciding : on where to go on our camping holiday in July/August
wishing : that our besties didn’t live five hours away and could come visit more regularly than just for special birthdays
enjoying : seeing all of Eleanor’s little friends from mum’s group turn one
waiting : for Matt to come home from a CFA meeting
liking : the new rug in the playroom
wondering : if the 1×4 kallax ikea shelf was the right choice for the playroom
loving : Eleanor’s version of ‘kisses’, a funny raspberry of sorts directed at Mum-mum as she crawls away frantically, gotta go, very busy!
pondering : soaking some chickpeas overnight to make some hummus
considering : just how many paper fans I actually need to make
watching : Tessa chase her tail, the madness of Matt not home yet, please feed me please please please
hoping : the weather is fine on Saturday, please no rain, please no rain please please please
marvelling : that this time last year, I was about to commence pre-labour…and Eleanor was born on Sunday night, sheesh!
needing : to buy Eleanor all all-in-one snowsuit for camping adventures with a crawler
smelling : roast pumpkin in the oven and wood chips from the fire
wearing : skinny jeans and breton top, just like Kate, and my new puffer vest
noticing : Eleanor comprehending words a lot more – ‘careful’, ‘have a drink’, ‘open up’, ‘pat Tessa’, ‘under’
knowing : that 90% of my birthday prep to-do list will get done on Friday night, I am nothing if not predictable
thinking : about how to get the security tag off my Gap jeans I bought in Melbourne on the weekend
sorting : through which blog posts I have utilised Pinterest well and those which I haven’t
buying : a house (!!!)
getting : in debt
disliking : our dark cave of a kitchen, a skylight is on the wishlist
opening : packages with wool, glorious wool, for more Winter projects than I have time for
giggling : at Eleanor’s latest trick, ‘blowing’ on her hot food
feeling : happy that Grandi is coming home tonight, hurruh!
snacking : on Eleanor’s leftover meatballs for dinner she wasn’t too fussed about
coveting : this print for Eleanor’s eventual big girl bedroom
helping : Matt understand hashtags, give me strength…
hearing : the dogs bark at the possums in our chestnut tree
looking : forward to the weekend with all of our loved ones to celebrate our blossom and our first year of parenting

Thank you to Pip for the ‘taking stock’ list, it was so nice to finally be in the same space as Pip on the weekend at the Kidspot Voices of 2015 Masterclass – she is just as lovely as you would imagine! And look who made the top 100, you can see all the other fab nominees over here. Thank you to everyone out there in strange ol’ internet land who read my ramblings here, sometimes it seems I’m chatting away to myself, but I put my heart and soul into She Sows Seeds and believe so much in the community I am building here. So…thank you.

I love reading these Taking Stock posts. Thank you for sharing and good luck for the birthday party. I think the first birthday is as much about the parents having made it through the first year as it is about the baby so congrats and enjoy!
