Early Sunday morning, just on time, Winter decided to arrive. Despite the forecasts of an unusually warm Winter this year (and I will admit it’s really not that cold yet) it seems that the season has arrived this first week of June, just as it should.
Being back in this neck of the woods where I grew up conjures the Winter’s of my childhood – muddy boots, foggy mornings, bare trees, grey days, pregnant ewes. The hum of potato harvesters through the hills is replaced by the drone of chainsaws on firewood collecting duty and you can feel that distinct chill in the air and know that snow is falling on the mountains.
Our little farmhouse is warm and cosy, thank goodness, I quite like the Winter months…if my home is a warm cosy nest. Mittens, boots and scarves have been pulled out while we hibernate, and the wheelbarrow treads a very familiar path from the woodshed to the back door over and over to keep the wood supply stocked.
Living in a climate where we really get to enjoy the four very distinct seasons is a treat don’t you think? Hope you are warm and cosy wherever you are welcoming Winter this year.

Oh it has been so long since I have really had a winter. I remember lazing in the sun to warm up and wood fires and bean bags (heat packs) to warm our toes in bed. Winter in the north I am sure won’t get much cooler than the current weather, it didn’t last year, making shorts and shirts winter and summer wear.

There is definitely just something about Winter isn’t there!? Since we had a fire put in a couple of years ago, I love lighting and sitting with the kids in front of it on our beanbags, sipping hot chocolates. Gorgeous images Emma

Beautiful picture of the wood pile. We have 4 seasons here and yes, I do enjoy them. Coming into hot summer soon.

Today, overheard a mum talking to her kid: OSCAR. I like it.
We normally get a short sharp winter. I can’t say I enjoy the frosty mornings, as our house is certainly not built on cosy lines, but the fire certainly has made a difference. I’d love to visit a place where the seasons are so defined, perhaps even live there for a year. One day perhaps!

Put it on the bucket list! Our Winter seems to drag on, long and dark. Once upon a time I was nanny to an Oscar, whose parents we are good friends with, and he’s a lovely kid which makes me think of the name in a good light – it’s all who you know with that name! Just between you and me though…I think we’re finally sorted on the names front 😉 …until we meet the little person and completely change our minds of course.

Gorgeous photos Emma. Did you make your head band? If so, do you have the pattern? Love it. xxoo

No I didn’t make it, I’ve had it for years, I think it’s originally from Mimco? It would be easy to make though, have a look on Ravelry. Good luck!
