The Australia Day weekend usually finds us in the same place every year – at our besties cropping farm in northern Victoria: lakeside, wakeboarding, eating copious amounts of sausages and cheese. We’re nothing if not consistent, and Eleanor had yet to experience the ‘northern oasis’ (a travesty!) so we packed up Friday and headed the 5 hours north-west to our home-away-from-home to introduce our baby girl to most of our pseudo-family.
Our extremely placid and easy going blossom doesn’t really make life now as parents any different to life pre-Eleanor. Daddy wakeboarded and went shooting with Uncle Tyler, we took Eleanor to church, Aunty Kate and Mummy read books and drank endless tea, nothing new there. I thought it might be a bit different now with a baby in toe…turns out it’s totally not! Huh. Eleanor just slots right in wherever we go, whatever we’re doing.
Another weekend spent in one of our happy places, with so many more to come as Eleanor grows up, hopefully enjoying the lake, the farm and the beautiful people that are her Uncle Tyler and Aunty Kate, playing a big role in her life.
Now we’re home again, home again, jiggedy jig – a messy house, a pile of washing and a hungry, growing-like-a-mushroom baby girl to fill my days to the very brim. Life is good in this big brown land o’ ours, isn’t it? We’re the luckiest of ducks, blessed beyond measure with all that we have in this country, the opportunities available to our children, the lifestyle we enjoy. For we are young and free indeed. Happy Australia Day!

Hello! Thanks for another lovely blog post, you are so lucky to have beautiful farms to visit! I was wondering if you would share a bit of info about the ring sling you are wearing? Are you happy with it? I have a 5 week old and am also looking at buying some sort of wrap/sling but there are so many out there, it gets a bit confusing!

Hi Jo-Ellen! Sure…this ring sling I bought when I was pregnant from Etsy (seller Milky Baby). It’s nothing special, just a plain cotton. I find it comfortable to use, although it could slide a bit better through the rings, but the more you use it the easier this becomes as the fabric’s fibres loosen. I have been considering getting a Sakura Bloom linen one, or another pure linen one from an Etsy seller, as this one can get a bit sweaty on a hot day, and I think the linen might slide easier? Overall though you don’t need anything fancy, just a piece of fabric and some rings! Eleanor loves the sling as it’s just like I’m holding her on my hip and she can see around.
